SANTA BARBARA About 150 men, women and children showed their support for International Women's Day by gathering Tuesday for the second annual Women on the Bridge event at Stevens Canyon Bridge.
The event was part of a nationwide campaign, created by Women for Women International, to honor female survivors of wars, civil strife and other conflicts, says the organization's website.
Katie Hatch, a Santa Barbara resident and organizer of the local event, told the News-Press she often travels overseas for work and that women often have handed her flowers and wished her a happy International Women's Day.
"People don't really know about it here at all," she said of the celebration, adding that it's a national holiday for women in China.
Myriad Flowers International of Carpinteria donated flowers for the event, Ms. Hatch said.
